Dance Studio 17 opens its doors for Southampton’s future stars
Two fathers have built a state-of-the-art dance studio in the centre of Southampton after being inspired by their daughters’ love of dance and fitness.
Paul McManus and Glenn Flinter could see how much fun and enjoyment Eva and Violet had when dancing and wanted to ensure that all abilities and ages have the opportunity to get involved in different forms of dance and exercise in one of the best facilities in Southampton.
They built Studio 17, in Southampton, to suit all ages and abilities and for all aspects of dance including tap, modern, ballet, jazz and contemporary; and fitness classes including yoga, Pilates, circuits, Zumba and martial arts. Performing arts groups could also use it as rehearsal space.
“Glenn and I have been able to see the joy that dancing brings to our daughters and we wanted to be able to help other people to have the opportunity to experience that same joy in a state-of-the-art environment.”
Glenn added: “With plenty of time, hard work and endeavour, we have been able to build a professional facility that will hopefully encourage other people, of whatever age or ability, to get involved in different forms of dance and exercise.”
Studio 17 has a 640sq ft Harlequin Sprung Dance floor, Harlequin Ballet Barres and floor to ceiling mirrors. It also has air conditioning, surround sound, free wifi, iPod connectivity and phone charging points.
Importantly, it has lots of free parking which provides a secure area for parents to pick up and drop off their children. Conveniently located in Central Southampton with great access to local amenities including Southampton Central train station, bus station, shops and the Mayflower theatre, with ample free parking onsite.
Paul concludes: “We hope the new space will be the perfect location for local dance and fitness groups to form a home.”
